Bettendorf’s Koester and Hill, and Pleasant Valley’s McDermott Make the State Finals

2 Bettendorf wrestlers and 1 Pleasant Valley wrestler will go for State Titles Saturday night at the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament.


Bettendorf 106 TJ Koester started the Semifinal round for the Bulldogs with a 4-1 win over SE Polk’s Carter Pearson, to put himself in the State Finals.  This was the 3rd win for Koester over Pearson this year, all close decision victories for the Bulldog.  He will wrestle Fort Dodge’s Dru Ayala in the 106 lbs class 3A final.


Pleasant Valley’s Caden McDermott continued his bracket busting ways, as he beat Johnston’s Sam Zindel with a clutch overtime takedown to make the finals.  Zindel was the 3 seed in this bracket.  McDermott, the 7 seed, took out the 2 seed in his Quarterfinals match.  He will wrestle Linn Mar’s Tate Naaktgeboren in the finals.


Bettendorf’s Bradley Hill won in his Semifinal match by decision over Southeast Polk’s Andrew Reed.  This is the 3rd time he beat Reed this season.  Hill will wrestle Waverly’s McCrae Hagarty in the finals.


The Iowa High School State Finals will begin at 6pm Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.
